Dr. JD LeClair—Great young vet. Our older vets have been retiring or working part-time, and we have been looking for some we can trust, does emergencies, communicates clearly, honestly cares, knows horses, is intuitive, a great vet, does everything from lameness to teeth better than well, basically the best vet ever, and that vet is Dr. LeClair. (No pressure there JD.) We don’t change vets much--about every 20 years or so—this is an important decision, and we are so happy the care JD provides our horses. Dr. LeClair provides both routine care and 24 hour emergency service. http://leclairequine.com/ or 970-578-9090. (Berthoud)
Latigo Lariat—We buy our tack here! Quality second hand horse tack, knowledgeable staff (not sort of, really), they probably sell new stuff, we don’t buy new stuff. We have bought and sold bits bridles and saddles though them. They have an e-mail and a web site, but plan on calling them 970-593-1984 (Loveland, on hwy 287, well worth the short drive.)
Charlie Cox—Leather repair, exactly what it says, genuine, quality, tack and strap good repair, including harnesses, Charlie beyond rocks. 970-690-6444 (Loveland, in the same store as Latigo Lariat, on hwy 287, well worth the short drive.)
Niwot Feed—Bagged horse food, including organic feed, grass, alfalfa, straw, shavings and more. Competitively priced with horse feed chain stores. Owners are knowledge able and helpful. They also sell fancy dog and cat food. 303 652-2900 (2nd Avenue, just across and down from Lefty’s, Niwot.)
These folks don’t pay to be on our little list, they probably don’t even know there is a little list. All these businesses are family owned, and may not keep the extended hours of chain stores.
